D8k Released - Stereo Delay for NI Reaktor
2025-06-24
In early 2020 I came across some old audio forum posts eulogising the Korg DL8000R. In particular people were discussing how you could complex stereo effects and lush evolving delays through the modulation and 8-tap architecture. Of course this led me to looking at prices online, which aren’t too bad but I decided that another hardware delay probably wasn’t a priority (and I hadn’t fully explored my TC Electronics D-Two which I’d bought a year or so previously). So, I began working on a Reaktor version of the Korg delay, based on the same architecture and trying to match features and parameter ranges as closely as I could.
I've got a bunch of other half-finished Reaktor ensembles on my hard-drive that I should probably complete and release... GUI's though... urgh.
Very quickly I had something up and running and sounded pretty good. I used early versions of it on the Shadows of Doubt soundtrack as it gave me a crunchy, digital smeary delay thing that I liked and was great for thickening-up pads and atmospheres.
I didn’t work on it for a few years before picking it back up and deciding to finish it to share online. I added a diffusion delay network into the feedback loop for reverb effects and started work on a GUI for it. This obviously took quite a while and involved many months-long breaks. However, it’s now finished and v1.0 is released. It’s got a small number of presets to show some of what it can do but it’s a complex beast and deserves some deep diving - it’s a bit of a beast!
You can download it for free via itch.io or the official Reaktor User Library.
